It's almost time for the 2024 NR2F1 Family and Scientific Conference. The previous Family and Scientific Conference in Florida took place about two years ago. 180 people attended, representing 21 US states and 10 nations. Seventy attendees were patients with BBSOAS, demonstrating the significance of this meeting for both the patients and all their family members.
Since the previous conference, the NR2F1 Foundation has grown and committed to supporting more scientific research for the following three years. The board members met with a few of the foundation's scientific advisors in January of last year, and they came up with a list of goals and a three-year research roadmap. This is a huge goal that will require the discovery of BBSOAS biomarkers and generating money for researchers.
The Embassy Suites by Hilton in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, will host the Family and Scientific Conference again from April 3–5. An event of this size and scope requires approximately $35,000 to host. If the foundation funds this, then research will not be supported by those dollars. The increased volume of research has led to numerous advancements that have improved the lives and future outcomes of individuals with BBSOAS.
The foundation is looking for companies that want to promote their brand for a cause they can support and know that every dollar they contribute will go directly toward the foundation and this event's expenses. These conferences are extremely significant and unique. Because BBSOAS is a rare disorder, families who have a child or other family member with the diagnosis frequently feel quite alone and overwhelmed. Families, wherever they might live in the world, can create new friendships and provide support for one another by getting together with people who share their circumstances.
The goal of this year's conference is twofold. One is for medical professionals and researchers to get together to exchange research findings, and second to foster relationships and connections among BBSOAS families.
The NR2F1 Foundation could easily generate the necessary funds to cover the conference's expenses if all of their friends and supporters contact their employers and other business owners, to inquire about promoting their businesses.
